DCO wins the Gold Sports Mark!

Posted 13th October 2023

We are delighted to announce that we, Dixons Cottingley Academy, have achieved the School Games Gold Mark Award for the 2022/23 academic year.

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

We had such a successful year, mentioning a couple of our highlights; the first ever Dixons Cup Champions for Y7 girls & Y9 boys football, Dragon Boat Champions and students representing Bradford at the West Yorkshire Athletics Championships.

We are so proud to deliver a gender-neutral curriculum for all at Dixons Cottingley. Last year, also saw the introduction of Co-Curricular. Students in Y7 and Y8 had the opportunity to learn indoor rowing which led to opportunities of rowing on water. Students developed new skills in Trampolining and were able to perform sequenced routines. Also, a large number of students completed their Young Leaders Award and are eager to lead Primary school events over year 2023/24.

We had such a fantastic year and we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport. As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded.

We will continue to maintain and expand students experiences in sport, already with the addition of our NEW Girls Football Academy and our NEW Boys Rugby Academy for this next academic year 2023/24.

A special thanks to all supporting staff and students for making last year a great one!

We look forward to applying once again in 2024!
