At DCO we are committed to rewarding excellence, and meeting the high standards that we expect of our students.
Our aims within student recognition are:
To reward students who consistently meet school expectations
To reward students who go above and beyond expectation
Acknowledgement of success and demonstrating the Academy values of Determination, Integrity & Trust
We call this recognition our Thrive system. By giving Thrive points, all staff at DCO can recognise excellence, this means that not just the students' classroom teacher is recognising our outstanding students, but all adults in the building.
Types of Thrive Points
The entry point for our positive reinforcement, the Thrive point is given to all students who meet the Academy expectation.
Some examples of where a Thrive would be awarded:
Students show a positive attitude to learning.
Students show a positive attitude around the academy.
Students show high levels of engagement during lessons or directed time.
Students meet the academies high expectations.
Students have been active participants in their lesson.
Students have been consistent in their positive actions - always had the right equipment ready, perfect uniform standards upheld, at lesson on time.
The second level of recognition for students to be awarded, the Thrive+ builds on the Thrive and awards double the points.
Some examples of where a Thrive+ would be awarded:
Students show an aptitude to go above and beyond around the academy. For example. picking up litter; supporting peers or staff on the corridors or in social times.
Students go above and beyond within the classroom. For example, answering the majority of questions; supporting peers to make progress; showing high levels of productivity and progress; completing additional home learning to support studies.
The highest level of recognition point given at DCO is the Values point. This is higher than the Thrive+ & is worth triple the basic Thrive.
Some examples of where a Values pointwould be awarded:
Students show exceptional school values of Determination, Integrity and Trust. For example, supporting in school events (Open evenings, parent’s evenings); representing the academy in fixtures or Dixons Cup competitions; attending an extra-curricular club and 100% attendance per week.
Students perform an outstanding action that a staff member wants to recognise as special. This could be helping another student in an emergency, showing over and above resilience to hardship, or truly exceptional performance.
Our students total points will be tracked through the academic year, and once they hit certain thresholds they unlock rewards, these range from phone calls & letters home, entries to prize draws, through to invitations to the Principals Breakfast.
We encourage all students, regardless of age to engage with this system as it really shows them that they are recognised as a valued member of #TeamDCO!
